Sara E. Furlow

Associate

Sara joins Delaney Stafford after practicing as a civil litigator focused on federal labor and employment law, handling discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, unfair labor practice, and proposed disciplinary matters. She represented clients in federal and state courts, as well as before administrative bodies. She also has significant appellate experience in Maryland.

Prior to and during her labor and employment practice, Sara worked in many family law roles, including advocating for children in foster care for eight years. She volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, a friend of the court for abused and neglected children, for three years before joining Maryland Legal Aid as a Staff Attorney. During her nearly five years at Legal Aid, Sara managed a heavy caseload while developing trainings for fellow Maryland children’s advocates and partnering with community resource organizations to benefit her young clients. She has been appointed countless times as a Child’s Advocate Attorney, and she also has experience serving as a Guardian ad Litem for incapacitated parents and a Child’s Privilege Attorney. She joined Delaney Stafford out of a desire to return to work with a focus on children and families.

Daily, Sara exhibits professionalism and passion serving her clients. Sara is thorough, resourceful, cool under pressure, creative, and continuously looking for opportunities to learn and improve. She is a zealous and effective advocate, and her work goes far beyond just the courtroom. In 2019, she was honored with the Diane Kinslow Award, which is granted to an attorney who “best exemplifies and demonstrates the qualities of courage, compassion, and love in the provision of legal services to the clients of Maryland Legal Aid.”  Through her passion, she has garnered the respect of not only her clients and colleagues but also the bench and opposing counsel.

In her spare time, Sara can be found as a volunteer on various committees with local bar associations. Sara is the Corresponding Secretary and Montgomery County Committee Co-Chair for the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association and the Youth Courthouse Project Committee Co-Chair for the Bar Association of Montgomery County. In law school, Sara was a Conflict Resolution Fellow.
